What the operation involves

A tumescent solution is infiltrated into the treatment area to reduce bleeding and numb the tissue, then fat is removed through small cannula incisions. Technique varies — traditional suction-assisted, power-assisted, and ultrasound- or laser-assisted variants are all in routine use. No technique is universally superior; the surgeon's judgement about how much to remove and where to leave volume matters far more than the device.

Recovery, realistically

Expect significant swelling and bruising for two to three weeks and a compression garment worn more or less continuously for four to eight weeks. Most people are walking the same day and off strong pain medication within a week. The final contour is not visible for three to six months as residual swelling resolves, so judging your result at week three will only make you anxious.

What raises the price

The number of areas treated is the single biggest driver. Adding a fat transfer, combining with a tummy tuck, or requiring an overnight facility stay all move the figure upward. Very low quotes sometimes exclude the garment, the anaesthesia team, or post-operative massage — ask what is bundled before comparing.

Before you commit

• Confirm ReTHUS registration. Colombia's national health-workforce registry is the authoritative record of who is licensed to practise. Check the surgeon's entry yourself rather than accepting a screenshot.
• Confirm the specialty, not just the licence. A registered physician is not necessarily a trained plastic surgeon. Ask where and when they completed their specialty training.
• Confirm where you will actually be operated on. Ask for the name of the facility. If a hospital is involved, its accreditation is verifiable at the hospital level — note that standalone clinics and day-surgery centres do not carry hospital-level international accreditation, and any claim otherwise is worth questioning.
• Get the inclusions in writing. Anaesthesia, facility fee, garments, medications, follow-up visits, and any revision policy should all be explicit before you pay a deposit.
